| St. John Bosco (Don Bosco) always referred to every young person as his "friend" and it is with this in mind that the doors of the DON BOSCO COMMUNITY CENTER are open to ALL the young people (boys & girls) of the local community without regard to race, creed, economic status, nor national origin. Primarily through the DON BOSCO BOYS & GIRLS CLUB - THE SALESIAN ORATORY (open September-June) and the SALESIAN SUMMER DAZE CAMP (open June-August) the DBCC reaches out to young people of the immediate neighborhood and the entire Village of Port Chester. In Don Bosco's spirit we create: "a home that welcomes, a playground where friends can meet, a school that prepares for life, and a church that evangelizes by loving charity". During the school year the DON BOSCO BOYS & GIRLS CLUB boasts almost 400 members, ages 8-18. For six weeks each summer SALESIAN SUMMER DAZE CAMP welcomes over 250 youngsters, ages 3-14, at its three sites: Holy Rosary School on Central Avenue, the Corpus Christi Youth Center on South Regent Street, and the Don Bosco Community Center. Both programs offer job training/experience through volunteer programs for area teenagers and year-long and summer time employment opportunities. |
